Derby Pie, LM version.

I promise, soon as I remember to take a picture of the actual pie , I will, I have made two this year, but froze them right away,,, they are great to keep for months in the freezer. Can you tell this recipe has served me well since about 1993??? I guess that is why 1993 is written in the corner. YUP, who knew I was such a messy cook??? everyone that observes this now of course.

SO, I did a quick deco job with what I could find on hand at the office this morning...Ignore the background work clutter please.
Low ANd Behold, an X- Coworker dropped  off this homemade Christmas tree yesterday for ME during lunch. left it in the back of the truck and then called to tell me about it... HMMMMM< wonder if that Derby pie I surprised him with last Friday at his office at 6:59 in the AM had anything to do with it... I supplied the horseshoes probably a year or so ago, and after he had to leave the job unexpectedly I figured it would never happen... but thanx BOB,,, I miss you dude. THis really makes me want to invest in an electric welder and try my hand at making such. I did do a couple years aluminum welding at a previous job YEARS ago...

Whoever heard of a Whatchmacallit Tree?

Ok, I delayed posting Christmas 2016 because I really meant to add a video but it just aint happening. so here goes my messy table,
ONE whatchamacallit tree for a very special person,
my Christmas Carousel (plays music) I've had for maybe 25 years, kinda scruffy sounding.
Milamonster with here sad dog antler look.
ShebaROOSEOME, the black dog that wouldn't be still (antlers demolished).  BEWARE HER TAIL, its like a piece of CONDUIT. Really though, she is a smart great dog, walks on a leash like a dream.
TWO new collars for the puppas, I have to add new phone tags before switching them out.
A GUM BALL tree for the office made from the branch of a really thorny mean lemon tree. Second one, someone bought the first one for 5 whole dollars.

Out of the Ordinary Thanksgiving. 2016

soooooo,,,, ,, Most of the time I am thankful for being an early bird. I did get something entirely new accomplished 2016 Thanksgiving, Last minuet planning on the dinner which turned into brunch/breakfast. I did start the dressing earlier in the week, even had some BIG samples , which I then had to revamp, because it was a bit salty and bitter because I really didn't['t have all ingredients on hand.  Damage control adding more bread (although I prefer biscuits, popeyes biscuits to be exact. more egg and a bit of half and half. Wallah,, great dressing which I then cooked in muffin tins rather than one large dish. Comes in handy freezing,,, I can just grab a dressing muffin, pop in the micro and yummmmy. I did make Mexican corn in a cup, forgot to put some on the plate.
SOOOOOOOO with brunch out of the way... I decided its time to put up that ceiling fan that I bought a year or so ago. My ole handy man has bout quit doing side work, so with the background I have with try anything and instructions, and one quick text. I HUNG MY FIRST CEILING FAN INDOORS!!!! Its working!!! I can't quit going in there to look at it. Its in a spare bedroom.  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, me!!!

Poached eggs

SO, thanx to R&D, I had to give the Poached egg with sauce thingy a try. I've experimented in the past with Poached eggs and they were fairly nasty looking. I searched the net and found a fairly easy microwave method which I do believe I like. I did overcook this one, so no runs in sight. I do have a habit of overcooking , mainly due to the "yucky" texture of many items. I used to love runny eggs, but since owning chickens if I over think it, the yoke will be done. The sauce on this one wasn't my fav, I think I was running on memory when it comes to the type of sauce. I did get the Knorr envelop ,but I grabbed Bernaise instead of Hollandaise and I was not impressed. It needed some fire or something. I did use English muffins which I normally keep on hand and added store bought Turkey sausage, it was on sale. I'll be glad when my chickens are done molting and I get some REAL eggs. HA....

my fav Rose

My Most favorite Rose,,, making a come back after being moved AGAIN.. I bought this Rose at the Garden Club from Raymond, MS at the county fair, several years ago. Its a work in progress and there are several more Rose's beside this one, but this one is my favorite, heirloom I think and has the Best Ole Timey Smell. Take no notice of the temporary landscaping or lack of. I may set small pots of something in them in the spring. BUT NEETA BANITA, loves to be noticed,,, PHOTOBOMB!!! where was that Silly Dilly???

vintage kitchenmagig

Hay R,

This is the vintage thingy I was asking you about.. I know with all your vintage stuff, you must have one or three???? I saw this one on eBay made by Ecko I think, well most of them are.. I have since found some on Amazon, but I think they call them skimmers now. dunno that I really need one, but after I saw it on a blog, I HAD to check it out. I bet I could have found one at the ButterChurn in Clinton. I'm not sure it is still open, the lady that founded it passed a couple months ago and I think they have been having sales there and her house to unload stuff,,, she had some STUFF. I must drive by there and see if all is gone.

Mole Quest

SO, who needs a tiller when they have the Shebaroosome. sometimes her head is buried past her ears. with the semi drought going on in Central Mississippi, the moles are looking for areas the slugs or what're they eat drift away to.
Sheba is on a mission and follows the trails, digging along their trails for several feet at times. Could this be my next garden area?? Well, maybe if I fence it off form the puppas. Mila also participles at times. I really have to watch walking the area. Ankle twisters DELUXE.
and yes, she does catch one from time to time.
Sure would be nice if she could dig post holes.

Silly Dilla and Banita,,, rare moment of peace.

Well, sometimes I just do not know what to think of my two. American Bobtails? Manx? Who knows since they were both rescues.

I think Banita (left) would be open to friendship, but Dilly can't make up her mind. she might sniff noses, and then a flurry of slaps. Maybe because she had such a hard start to life. Tossed from a car, leg broken, A lady noticed, scooped her up and took her to the vet. She could not keep the kitty, but paid for full vetting, repair of broken leg, spaying, all of it.
Dilly, aka Baradilla, akd Aradilla lived at the vet In Crystal Springs for a while, then fostered by a friend of mine, who kept talking about her, till I took her in.

Please excuse the bare floor in spots. I ripped up carpet, mainly due to dogs and cats. and I haven't decided , nor found the money or is it REALLY ENERGY<< to replace. I'll not go back to carpet for sure.

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, DO NOT DISTURB Dilly!! peace reigns for a few.

Neshoba, wolf or dog??? Missing, Family devestated.

So, I thought I would post this in hopes of some internet surfer would maybe see this picture and maybe spot this (dog)

I have met the owner,,, and while he may not be a friend,, he loves this dog and his others. He is fairly certain she was stolen... as many have said, he only took his eyes off her a few minutes to run inside for something , here the others barking, rushed outside and she was gone.

she has been missing now for 3 or 4 months I think. ANYWAY, she deserves to be back home, And I hope one day he will get her back. WOW, doesn't she look wolf like?? she is some sort of mix.

loofa shade and chickens

SOOOOOO, the chickens again, I really need to revamp my chicken yard etc, but at least thanx to the loofa vines. They take away some of the ugly and create some Great shade for the hens. I don't even plant the seeds anymore, since I don't harvest like I should , seeds scatter and they come up on their own. and TAKE OVER if your not careful,,, The Loofas themselves have the netting/fake shade sagging really badly. but I enjoy looking at them and the shade. Soon as a frost hits, I'll have to yank them all down. I love stuff I don't have to plant or tend very much. I really should get motivated and make my own loofa sponges for cleaning and bathing.
Tomorrow is another day!

oh and the elephant ears,,, LOVE THEM... I split and plant in other spots and some are way taller than me.
FORGOT to take a picture of the first Spider Lily yesterday, ITS UP... Can it mean, Fall soon to be???

More Memories Darby Related

Ok, so yes, i'll probably be posting several memories of Darby and pictures. Not so real these but amazing work done by an artist friend I met online in a Collectors Club. These were Hagen Renaker ceramics (MADE IN USA). They have been in business since the 50s. I've seen some of the older horse models sell for several Thousand.

But about Darby,,, I had this Hagen Renaker customized to look like Darby. Yes he was an Appaloosa Quarter horse cross. and Palomino with a Blanket and flakes of spots. He did fade a bit over the years especially in the summer.
If you look closely I had a Freeze Brand applied to his left Shoulder.  It was a blend of my name, my sister's name and a cross. I believe she registered the brand although dunno if she kept it up to date.

the Model was also fired, so the paint and custom job will be there!!

days gone by. How the time flys.

RIP DARBY May 1998-August 18 2016

So sorry Darby we couldn't save you, Even though I was no longer riding and had not been to visit lately after giving him to my sister years ago, I'll Miss Darby with my heart and soul. I'll never forget the day you were born, or evening. I even helped pull the birth sack off your face and almost spent the night with you making sure all systems were go. You were a wonderful friend.
I don't have all the details but my sister says Colic/Impaction. For some reason Darby seemed prone to colic starting about 5 or 6 years ago. I guess his heart gave out.

RIP, I will see you again.

Shebaroosome, guarding her Gourd??? or wanting me to chase, which I never do. I talk her down. I so wish I had found Sheba before she was 9 months old. Half Lab wants to retrieve (certain Items) , she wants to give them to me, but sometimes the Rhodesian in her kicks in and she wants to run with it. I talk her down and eventually she gives it to me. I've even taken a wild baby bunny from her, although it took some major conversation. And Yes, one of them I saved and eventually returned to the wild.
she is a beautiful dog and watching her run is like Poetry in motion. she reminds me of the days I used to trail ride. Sheba (aka Cheebers) has a beautiful slow canter/lope. I love watching her run. INDOORS< not so much.... ha, 90 lbs of tornado.

Chickens 2016

So, I still have five chickens, a couple are older, so not as many eggs, but I normally give most a way, forgive the thrown together pen, its mostly homemade using anything and everything, old lattice. PVC and wire for gates. A good buddy did get me started with the coop parts. Although with my never ending not so great ideas at times, the chicken house is a bit leaky. I will have to try to fix that before this winter. for now, every leak might be helping it to be cooler. the egg count is down due to the heat I think, One chicken was feeling poorly, but seems to be doing better with a bit of handfeeding and lots of chicken probiotics , electrolytes and vitamins.   the black one is the last surviving one of my original five starting 4 years ago I think. She is boss chick. DON"T TELL anyone, but her name is a spin off someone I work with that is about the rudest, hatefulist person I have ever met or worked with.  Most of the people I work with feel the same from what I can tell.

I actually have someone coming from miles away, meeting me at work to get a couple dozen eggs, I think her husband made her though. He know longer works with me, but swears by homegrown" eggs.

I don't think I posted this already, I had to keep up with RD. normally I give carrots for treats to Milamonster and Shebaroosome. but in June I celebrate all critters birthdays, so the puppas got frozen hotdogs. not easy to take picture and get some nice pictures with HOTDOGS in the picture.

Happy Birthday puppa dogs,

Buzzard Invasion

And then there were,,, well I Couldn't count them all. I was indoors trying to cool off, I normally have the big dogs in the late afternoons on weekends cooling, Mila was in I think. Shebaroosome was out stretching her long legs, and I heard her fussing about something, So I walked out to the deck to see. BUZZARDS everywhere, just across the electric fence one side of the pond. I couldn't see what they were fixated/eating on. I tried taking multiple pictures but dunno what. Hopefully it was deceased already. Its so grown up back there and too many snakes, so I didn't go where the tall grass grows. OF course They flew away, I walked the open side of the pond. Notices a small new tree with lots of broken limbs. DID THEY DO T HAT?? or was the storm the day before that bad. There were small limbs everywhere, and multiple buckets had blown away from the shed and chicken house. BUZZARDS are larger than what most people imagine??? I meant to get a picture or movie of Sheba running the fence line checking them out. roaring like the half lion dog she is TOO fast. I hope she doesn't overheat herself today if they return.

people imagine????

SO, The Rabbit release went as scheduled Friday, and the Rain held off till Saturday, what a beautiful morning it was. I chose the release spot Thursday evening and even prepared it. I fed the little feller one last time. HE was VERY unappreciative when I rounded him up into a smaller box, they do tend to get petrified. Down to the edge of the woods and away he went. I took a couple pictures, it was right before daylight, so a person will have to use their imagination to see the little feller.

I feel sure it was time. He was getting very territorial about his small space, I couldn't hand catch him without a lot of effort , although he did smell the milk in the dropper and would eat without me picking him up . I prayed to the rabbit Gods and hope for the best. If  I see a rabbit next August 29. I am going to think its him. I am.

and Then There was ONE!!

Meet the bunny, the surviving bunny of a nest the dogs found in the back yard. I really hate it when those rabbits cross back there. How the nest wasn't found while they were smaller I do not know. I will be cutting the limbs back on the cedars in hopes the rabbits do not nest there again.
I was doing poo patrol even though its a large area for two dogs, I hate hitting fresh piles while cutting grass.
ALL of a sudden , I hear and see a commotion going on under the cedars.  I know I was raised eating rabbit and all sorts of wildlife, but watching an episode of dogs meets 2 week old bunnies just really made me ill. I yelled , hollered, shed a few tears and then just headed to the house so I didn't have to watch them any longer.

I guess the yelling worked to a certain extent. I was indoors, heard a small squeal, went out to the back deck and there was one of those bunnies stuck in a crevasse that Sheba brought back to the deck. The critter did not appear to be injured, but was in shock and shut down. I heated up a microwave snuggle pad from a small dog now over the rainbow bridge, and low and behold the bunny got better.

Love me some internet info. I set him up in a safe place, lots of dry grass, off to the store to get goats milk and supplies.

Two weeks later the critter is more than ready to be released. I have fed him formula, and he is eating all kind of wild things I have picked along with romaine and red leaf lettuce. He Is rejecting me now and even bows up at me.

the release is planned for  Friday morning at dawn. WILD Rabbits do not do well in captivity and the earlier they can be released the better for his survival. INTERNET INFO ROCKS, I did read several but learned more from a licensed Rabbit rehabber in Texas.

I probably traumatized the bunny taking his picture but I am so proud he survived the attack. SO sorry mama bunny your other bunnies didn't make it.

On another note, there are specific formulas that can be bought just for wild rabbits, but of course I had no time to order them, some of the formulas at pet stores and such, I AM TOLD do more harm than good on wild rabbits. SO goat milk and a touch of honey and probiotics. and this little fella seems good to go. If his eyes had not already been open, it probably would have been a different story.

tomato crop 2016

So this is just a portion of the tomatoes I have retrieved this season, Many have been eaten given away and a few quarts chopped and in the freezer.
Who knew it was going to be a good year for tomatoes? I would have had triple the amount if I had done a better job of weeding and tying up tomatoes. I also normally plant more than 8/9 plants.
The rats have hit them also, or possums. I've also fed several icky looking ones to the wild turtles and of course I have to share with the chickens, although too many scraps to the chickens equal less eggs.
I've really enjoyed tomatoes, but unfortunately, the acid really gets to my guts, so I've had to cut back while steady having to watch them ripen indoors. SAFE from the bugs.
I really need to take a picture of my sorry looking weed filled patch, but its a bit embarrassing.

Boudin or is it BOUDAIN????

How do you say it,,, not sure but I sure wish it was readily available near my home. well other than Walmart or Kroger, when you can find it. SO I guess I'll have to ask around, search around and surely a fellow Blogger R &D, just might have a suggestion... NO, I am not going to bother with stuffing it in casing. I do splurge and buy it from time to time, but surely there is a SIMPLE recipe somewhere that doesn't require grinding this and that. SO BODAIN!!!!

BOXIES in the making!!

SO, I was beginning to think I would never see another Box Turtle  in my corner of the world, well at least not in my direct path. I wasn't trying to be a peeping tom, but this is what I get. I went away for a few minutes and returned in hopes of getting better pictures, but they skedaddled away. Who said turtles can't move!!!

what's better than ONE Box turtle?? TWO OF THEM ____(getting married) LOL, maybe one day I will spot their children, but I shan't hold my breath.
