Silly Dilly and the make shift, bridge, no people allowed on bridge.

Well, I picked up a 12 foot old pallet from the shop, thinking I could make a bridge over the break in the dam, so I don't have to go down the hill and around when whacking trees grass etc. but it barely reaches across, so NOPE< not going to step foot across, but the kitties like it, unfortunately with all the rain, the break is wider than ever. I've been piling tree limbs and such in hopes of slowing down the water flow. AS COLD as it was this past Sunday morning, it warmed up so much, the turtles were out basking in the sun Later in the day.

WELL the snappers that is,,,, thanx to a rehabber/rescuer i work with, I watch turtles now in the broken down pond out back. this is the dam area. IT gets very low this time of year, For some reason a couple of large Snappers decided to live in this area, maybe because of the BUNCHES or is that schools of minnows? However, i have grown fond of treating the turtles (all kinds) snacks of scraps, (watermelon rind) tomatoes etc. THE SNAPPERS now watch for me every afternoon about 5:30 or so. Last weekend I forgot to take something, they saw me and one started up the bank.. I DECIDED it was time to exit (stage right) . One dude trys to run the other off at times. I know there is at least one LARGER , but I have not seen it lately.

July 4 brought on the blast for sure

THE BLAST of RAIn, or Flood almost in my neighborhood. WEATHER DUDES called it a dry day, but geeee, not at my house, just as i was thinking it was time to get busy cutting grass, the deluge hit ,,, My Pond dam is REALLY worse, the water off the road cut some major ruts in the driveway ( i have called the county to see if they will take a look at the nonexisent culvert and drainage.) I tried a few years back to get on a state program to have the pond repaired, but i don't own enough property or am not a farm I think. THEY did look at it and made recoommendations that I can not afford at the moment. SO here are a couple pictures of the DRY day in Mississippi. OH, im going to have to redo the dog fence in one corner becuase the pond is caving in around the edges because of the dam. PEOPLE do a lot of WANTING on the recycle sites and craigs, wonder can i want a volunteer with a tractor or bulldozer to work on it, BUT if they don't do some engineered thinking, it will just blow out again, when a DRYGULLYWASHER DAY falls out of the sky.
ON a more positive note, the tomatoes are ON the make, and the wild turtles are still happy, although a couple were washed out thru the runoff, but are safely back in the wild pond. LOL

after Tropical Storm Lee

Be Carefull what you wish for is what "they " say,,, Tropical Storm Lee filled up my pond again, but surrounding cities did have some flooding. Snakes and Turtles are happy once again!

Pond or Puddle

My poor shared pond is more a puddle these days with the lack of rain in my corner of the world, but the weeds sure manage to find sustenance. Part of this is due to lack of funds and participation from neighbors, the true owner of the place next door talks big, probably even has the needed equipment, but does not help. He's the one who moved tenants in that let garbage blow everywhere and have turned the place into a dump. I just try to keep to myself and figure one day they will move away like many before them. The little chiwaka dog disappeared, replaced by a dachshund I know longer see, and the big old Lab has hibernated for the summer i think.

Turtle Invasion

Its that time of the year,,, Turtles abound , back and forth they cross the yard , in search of that perfect spot to deposit eggs! MilaMonster checked this one out, NEVER fear, no turtles harmed in the filming of this picture!! THEY do not move fast enough to hold her interest, after all , she is half Rhodesian Ridgeback, she wants to CHASE things!!!

The Goose That Came to Stay!

Well, here we have Papa and Mama, No baby Goslings, Dunno what happened, didn't hatch or SOMETHING ate them?????????? From what I have read, maybe a good thing, But I sure was thinking it would be fun to watch them grow. The geese have flown away to better ponds, I think they check in every now and then, Looks like them, but whose to say?




Well Actually Two of them, This is Papa Goose, Mama goose sitting on a nest I do believe,Not the best shot, but it is what it is thanx to new camera and decent zoom.
There was a humongous fight a couple weeks ago between this couple and another. I thought it was just a quick visit, but Looks like these two decided to stay. I dunno if that is good or not after reading a few articles on line.
I guess I'll know for real in another two/three weeks if I see babies following along behind. WELL if they survive the snakes/coyotes/fox etc.
Maybe I'll get lucky and be able to add a picture of mama on nest. I barely can see her from certain angles in the yard across the pond , and I AM NOT going around thru the briars, not to mention I read they are very protective. PAPA sure swims around on the guard, he has chased away many a crane!

Gobblers Oh MY!

WOW, did I spook them or what, I haven't seen these guys in a very long while now, Too much movement in my area, plus the neighbor had clear cut that area next to my property. I DID so enjoy watching for them that year.

Visitors

Hello visitors!!! This was just below the pond runoff, I was standing on the back deck/porch watching them, Hmmmm, maybe they were close because of the corn i put out last week? I love watching them I have to admit. This one spotted the Mila Monster rolling around scratching her back. Not long after, exit stage right with tails flagging!!!

you probably can't see it here, but this poor little guy/gal was spooked by my walkabout and got in such a hurry to plop back in the water, that it was stuck for a moment on the stump. its little legs were spinning round and round like a windmill. Sorry but I had to laugh! IT did finally manage to flip off the stump and disappear!

I snapped this photo early spring, I think I had about 5 duck visitors that day, they spent the night and away they went to wherever home may be for them. I do so love the visitors I get from time to time on the small neglected pond I share with a couple neighbors.
