Mississippi Snow Time

Ok, I know , I know, most folks wouldn't call this a real snow storm,(12/5/09) but here in Mississippi , WE DOOOOOOOOOO, just a smattering perhaps and almost gone by 10 or 11 AM but still it might be all we get for years, although in the past few years, we seem to be getting a bit more here and there?? GO figure, SO many keep saying we are into Global Warming?? DOES this look warm, not to us here in Mississippi!! SO pretty for a bit!!!

Poor Elephant ears and other plants didn't like it for sure, it was time for them to hide for the winter. I do need to get out and do clean up. BUT brrrrrrrrrrrrr, I was busy doing other things, LIKE Christmas shopping,WE did have warm up yesterday and i was out moving a couple elephant ears and cannas.

Have a great day!!!

My bit of Color

Alas, My tiny smidgen of Central Mississippi doesn't get near the color some parts of our Great USA gets, but I'll take what I can get, this in an early November photo from my back deck/porch. I'll have to try another in a few more weeks.

Visitors

Hello visitors!!! This was just below the pond runoff, I was standing on the back deck/porch watching them, Hmmmm, maybe they were close because of the corn i put out last week? I love watching them I have to admit. This one spotted the Mila Monster rolling around scratching her back. Not long after, exit stage right with tails flagging!!!

Three days old

NOPE, not done with Memory Lane, Here is my fav bud , long gone, REBEL at three days old, I chased after these horses for hours with a teeny ratty old camera, thru gynormous ditches to get a couple photos. Mama Maud was having nothing to do with me or any humans. I was mud from head to toe getting a couple ditches.

Dunno why the memories have been hitting hard lately, heres a reallllllllly old and not so good picture from WAY BACK WHEN, my long gone best buddy Rebel at Forest Hill Stables, pretending to be ENGLISH???? Had a lot of fun though!!! Maybe not the prettest nor well built horse I ever owned but I raised him from a baby and we went through thick and thin together for 30 years!!!

Identification HELP????

hay People,,, oh yes, i'm still identfying myself too, but not at this post! LOL,,, A freind sent these fruits (?) to me, I'm not up on my fruits, so maybe someone can help? The green one is a beginner baby, the right is ripe? It apparently grows on a vine, and the ripe one is only 2 to 2 1/2 inches , looks like mini melons. I have not cut it open, just hate to do that , but i must to save some seeds I suppose. I have been told it is full of seeds, My friend says they sprouted up from a load of manure they had delivered for there garden spot. HELPPPP, its a very interesting bit of fruit!!

Brown Grass and Itch Dog

Here we have the silly Puppawhuppa (aka MILA MONSTER), the itch dog i call her, I did take this one back in the winter before the grass went green again, she loves throwing her tennisball down and scratch her itchy back on it.
I did take Ramon's advice and added codliver capsules to her daily regimen. I expect it will take a couple weeks to kick in.

Hibiscus days gone by.

hay , well here you have it, the Hibiscus that did make it thru last winter, I had my doubts and it didn't stay pretty for long, it looks really ick these days, Oh and the horse has a habit of changing colors fairly regular. While ORANGE is my fav, I think the Ballerina Pink before was kind of a neat color. THis patch is one of the gee, I'll just put it here for now till I decide where it needs to Live???????? I dug up a few of this and that, added a couple Hosta, in the back ground is some odd plants called Strawberry Bush, not for people consumption, but I think eventually the birds will like them, SOMEthing odd i found on Ebay but Native to the SOuth???? I'll have to get a close up of them another day. Poor Hibiscus, this was a post about them??? what happened???

If i didn't have family here, I believe I would load up and MOVE!!!! I did spend a bit of time in the Ozarks growing up as My Mother is from Missouri!! Oh the country of it!!!

Why Didn't I keep it?

Very Interesting Moth found on the sidewalk at the office by a friend, she took this picture with her cell phone. It was humongous and beautiful (not that I am a fan of bugs), I think it was dead, now why didn't i collect it and measure it, possibly mount it? It's my favorite color and very neat critter. I should have measured the thing.

I can't tell you how many times I've been puttering about the yard and all of a sudden a breeze whips thru and those wings will SPOOK me everytime! gotta love them, I must get find some more??? LOL

The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Here again, we Have the Mila Monster, a shortened version of her WHOLE name, a story for another day, Do you remember the Song, The Lion Sleeps tonight? For some reason Mila reminds me of this song, Maybe because even though she Looks like Labrador Ret. she is HALF RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK, As I raised Labradors many years ago, I believe her personality comes from the Ridgeback from studying them online. They were bred in Rhodesia to hunt Lions, she has a way of tippytoeing about at times. CAN you tell I am very attached to this PuppaWhuppa as my son used to call her, she is very entertaining, vocal etc. HAAAAAAAAa, look for more on Mila Bodila later, If your a dog lover, I know you can appreciate! PS, a plus I adopted her from a Rescue on the Coast of Mississippi just before Hurricane Katrina. She has helped me thru some tough times in the last 4 years. She hears all, tells nothing!
PS, IF anyone has tips for Skin Allergies in Dogs, all are welcome. She actually is doing well, with loads of vitamins and Benadryl.
PS again, DID I mention , Mila loves this willow tree, i think its about the same age as her 4 years. HMMMMMMMMmm, do trees have tree years, like dogs have dog years?

SURPRISE!!!!

YIPPEEEEEEE, the first one of the season! My absolute most fav o rite flower of all times!!! Some call them surprise Lily, some naked lady,, I just call it spider lily, I just know I LOVE THEM even shortlived and short blooming as they may be. I scour the landside for them. I hear they bloom white in some places, maybe one day I'll find some!!

Fig Trees and Fire ants

Ok, well this is supposed to be about the fire-ants that almost killed my fig tree this year, but the Mila Monster somehow managed to get included in the picture, LOL, this seems to happen fairly regular.
But really, I almost ignored that one fire ant bed too long and this tree just about didn't' survive this spring, but wow look at it now, there may not be many figs this year , but once I did away with the fire ants, it has rallied and looks decent.
Its actually from a rooting at my Mothers house, which I planted a couple years ago. I'm not much into eating figs, but I love the trees, and after reading WIVES with knives today I had to do a post on my poor mistreated fig tree, or is it MILA MONSTERS fig tree, I actually it planted on the South side of her kennel to throw shade and privacy on her kennel.

Doesn't everyone have one?

A Garden Gnome that is that was gifted to me, that lives under a Mexican Firebush? I just couldn't leave him cement color. I painted the little guy a few years ago, he has aged nicely , although with a few cracks and chips here and there from being moved about.
this firebush doesn't appear to be the happiest in the world, it gets a bit too much shade apparently.

Angel Trumpet oh my the Smell

I finally managed to take a better picture of the Angel Trumpet, Its been planted for about three years now, and is finally getting more than just a couple blooms, I hear they are posionous , but my the strong perfume smells they create in the early Mornings. Mixed in you may see a loofa sponge, the antique roses , a green bean or two!

spinning wheels turtle

you probably can't see it here, but this poor little guy/gal was spooked by my walkabout and got in such a hurry to plop back in the water, that it was stuck for a moment on the stump. its little legs were spinning round and round like a windmill. Sorry but I had to laugh! IT did finally manage to flip off the stump and disappear!

kill the tree by way of the Mila Monster

Here we have the Mila Monster killing a tree, well really I had cleared off a cut thru for walking purposes. The tree I decided to use to prop up the birdhouse vines as the Gourds are weighing down the fence, tarp and strings. I was having a hard time cutting grass in the kennel. Milamonster just Knew I cut that tree down for HER to Kill!!! I did finally get it in the kennel and its serving a purpose once again. Till the next time Mila!!

A realllly favorite spot of mine! Jerktail cliff

This is a really favorite place my sisters and I used to take our horses and join friends in Emminence, MO in the Mark Twain National Forest (oops i think, i better check the memory banks on the Forest info).
I was riding the cliff when I took this photo of my sister on the Current river while sitting on the back of my trusty Leopard Appaloosa friend REBEL of many years ago.
The Cliff was called Jerktail, and could be scary indeed when riding up and down those cliffs some of solid rock.
OH THE MEMORIES!!!

Raymond Castle

here we have the Castle in Raymond, its been up for sale for a while now, price has been lowered, hmmmmm, i always wanted a castle, the deco inside leaves me a bit overwhelmed but then it was used for weddings and such for a bit. Love where its located, and the acreage that comes with, but still way beyond my means. I do soooooo remember when they had the Christmas drive bys!!! Maybe one day, I'll just add a turret to my corner of the neighborhood and ENJOY!!!

visiting ducks

I snapped this photo early spring, I think I had about 5 duck visitors that day, they spent the night and away they went to wherever home may be for them. I do so love the visitors I get from time to time on the small neglected pond I share with a couple neighbors.

Stare Down

who do you think won the stare down? Bogemeister or the Tallyheifer (italian Greyhound) Acutally they do get along a bit. When Tally was younger , Bogy couldn't stand the IG. She was like a bowling ball, she just ran right over him.

Loofa Sponges and MORE

hay hay and Take no notice of the weeds at the bottom, if you can since I had to go and bring them up myself? Here we have the Loofa sponges blooming this year, I didn't even set them out, they came up from last years sponges that i left hanging. I plant them mostly for shade. (some were over a foot long, and If i would peel and clean them, make great sponges for cleaning etc.

HAAA , along with them are a few string beans, that did not do well this year. in the background to the right, Angel Trumpet (are they really posion?) and an antique Rose bush I bought at the Raymond, MS spring festival.

Could I be Kin?

Well Gee, If Felder can grow stuff in the back of his truck why not me??? this is a Loofa sponge vine,, If memory serves me correct, I tossed a cured Sponge in the back of my truck to bring to the office for someone, I guess a seed escaped??? I just noticed this last weekend, Excuse the leaves and other bits and pieces, I get busy about the yard and don't always take everything out right away. I've a long way to go before catching up to Felders back truck planting! I get a kick out of reading about it though.

who is that stranger in the mirror?

Ok, I know the yard is a bit messy at the moment of the picture, I was in the middle of doing a lot of spring planting, but I had to stop and bag the Mirrors on my truck as the Male Bluebirds seem to think that pretty bluebird in the mirror is trespassing and must be fought and excommunicated. For about a month I had to cover my mirrors. Bogmeister (cat) was just waiting to join in and make a meal of them.

More Tomato Gravy

Hay People,

Ever since tomato season exploded this year, I've been experimenting with my tomato Gravy, (thanx Ramona)

once again early this morning, I "played" with a pot of TG.

NOT bad, but still needs a bit of something or just MORE of my spices. I'm always afraid of getting to much of one or other spice and ruining it. I've especially tried to cut back on salt, although i sure do love my sea salt.

Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated!!

This batch has bacon, a touch of local honey, a bit of tomato paste added in with my own home grown tomatoes, which are now not near so prolific.

seeya,
PS, did I happen to mention , Orange is my fav color?

Bird House Gourd Vines

well, its been a month or so since the last picture of the birdhouse gourd vines, they have really grown, there are many gourds too, I did have to cut a couple off since i was banging my head when i mowed the grass inside the dog kennel for the MilaMonster. I think i have found homes for most of the larger Gourds, I guess they are going to make birdhouses out of them??? they still have a bit of growing time left though.
I did also plant a mix of gourd seeds, there are a few others growing but smaller, i noticed a new one yesterday that is really different, the package called them decorator gourds. if they survive, should make nice fall deco.

One fine Christmas day

THIS is realllly one of my favorite photos,,, I think I snapped this one 2005 Christmas morning, visiting the horses with treats. Darby was snoozing big time, My sister walked up to him and they were "conversating" ,,, is that a word?

He's such a pet for a large animal. I helped bring him into this world, and was honored to be the first human to lay hands on him 1998..

seeya,

the best is yet to come!!!

Memories 3 sisters

hay hay, This picture was taken at one of my favorite trailrides, in Emminence Missouri. Two of my sisters went along on these rides, the Youngest never really got into the horses or there would have been four sisters in this picture.
This is one of my fav pictures, maybe not the best, but brings back lots of memories,

this picture is like a memorial to my sister Carolyn who now walks rides with the Lord due to Lung Cancer almost 4 years ago. It still feels like yesterday and I miss her so,, even if we did have our SIBLING rivalry moments and there were MANY, some funny of course.

Welcome to Mississippi

Pink House?

haaaaaaa,

NO my house is NOT pink but the sun coming up that morning In June sure gives that illusion,,, and I didn't notice it whilst taking ANOTHER picture of the MILA Monster, only after viewing the picture. OH, the vines are BirdHouse gourd vines i plant for summer shade on the MM kennel. THEY have since tripled in growth!!! GREAT shade! I've also added more sisal string for them to expand!

Sniff sniff

here we have Mila-Monster and the Bogmeister,

Bogmeister only walks with us when the MM is on leash, WELL she is half Ridgeback, she wants to chase!!! Here they interact sniffing out rabbits maybe? I've seen the evidence of The BOgmesiters success as he would think it.

Tomato Gravy

hay hay hay and especially for Ramona,
Hay thanx Ramona for posting your tomato gravy picture a few weeks back, youve got me experimenting these days, especailly on weekends,
, I truly meant to take a picture but YIKES, i et them and forgot!! Maybe later, since I ended up with left overs ,but then it can chill and absorb the spices!.
here i am , once again, up way early, actually been up a couple hours, just now making it to the PC, I decided to experiment once again with my tomato gravy recipe attempts. MMMMMMMM, came out fairly well this time. Still needs a tiny bit of something, anyone got Tomato Gravy recipe tips/hints they would like to share?
I'm NOT a biscuit maker though, i like the teeny tea biscuit critters you can buy frozen!
PS. since they are teeny, I can trick myself into thinking I'm not being a gluten, besides I do not like thick doughy biscuits.

Wednesday, July 15, 2009

oops, I've got to get better at this blog stuff

OUCH , I've got to work on the MILA Monster picture, IT wasn't meant to be behind the title/description. THIS picture was a year or so ago, she loved that bucket, I called it the Buffalo, she finally killed the thing after numerous attempts. Racing around the yard bumping into trees and such is not conducive to longevity.
ha, did you realllly think there would be a buffalo/bison in this picture?

Dream Yard

I'll catch up to this dude one day!!! For now, I just putter about adding this and that, no rhyme, no reason, well not much reason.
