Banita Roosting

NO, she's not a chicken, just a watch cat, she stays on the porch most of the time watching the place and this is her very fav spot when the wind isn't blowing. I meant to cut those boards off, but she loves that spot so i just put a really heavy paver on the other end for ballast.

Project progress

Almost a year ago, my sister and I added a roof to the outdoor of her patio. FINALLY we started work on the deck part, two Saturdays ago. We still have more to do, but it is usuable. Not to bad a start I think for a couple sisters that just eyeball something and decide to throw it together. WE don't always get our measurements correct but, we make do!

after Tropical Storm Lee

Be Carefull what you wish for is what "they " say,,, Tropical Storm Lee filled up my pond again, but surrounding cities did have some flooding. Snakes and Turtles are happy once again!

Be careful what you wish for, Tropical Storm Lee filled up my pond for a bit, but surrounding cities had big flooding also.

Pond or Puddle

My poor shared pond is more a puddle these days with the lack of rain in my corner of the world, but the weeds sure manage to find sustenance. Part of this is due to lack of funds and participation from neighbors, the true owner of the place next door talks big, probably even has the needed equipment, but does not help. He's the one who moved tenants in that let garbage blow everywhere and have turned the place into a dump. I just try to keep to myself and figure one day they will move away like many before them. The little chiwaka dog disappeared, replaced by a dachshund I know longer see, and the big old Lab has hibernated for the summer i think.

Castle Mott progress

WEll then, I've made a bit more progress on Castle Mott, the rescued Box turtle enclosure. I added a feeding station July 4 weekend. This to prevent Ants from invading and taking his food. He Loves his pool and water for sure. (even though he is a Land turtle) I'm still working on making it a bit more cohesive to the pool, more rocks to add. the stream from his pool will feed into it to help keep the moat filled with water to repell ants, meanwhile I am researching plants that repel ants. I have found a few and actually had some growing in the yard, but who knew I would need them before cutting grass. Its amazing what we do for our critters. I really did not mean to spend as much as i have building this enclosure. BUT its been fun.

Darby 2011

I was visiting my sister and helping her assemble a piece of furniture and for once remembered my camera and snapped a picture of Darby, the horse I gave her a few years back. HE aint missed no meals although he thinks he does, he's one of those easy keepers, a small handful of feed once a day in the summer and he is a TANK. He is Quarter/Appaloosa Palomino, but most of his color that day was rolling in a mud hole. He's such a big pet, and a good trail horse. AND he finally quit attacking her neighbors pig when it visits.

Nothing really special about this post, just a view from the NOrth Side of the house down the drive, everything is greening up nicely, several new additions down the side of the drive way including Castle Mott, the turtle enclosure, plus I painted the horse again, from copper to silver.

Castle Mott /Tally Memorial

Progress IS being made, Mott the Rescued Box turtle does live in his enclosure as of Good Friday and appears to be happy. I still have more work to do but I am enjoying the process. I have planted Hosta, green beans, squash, grasses etc inside along with a stream Moat. I did have to cut branches for Mott to hid amongst till the plants get some size to them. He has a stump he favors to hide under and a Boston fern. More pix to come.

I'm also adding a memorial to the front behind the wall for my little Italian Greyhound of 16 years and a Lab of 13 years. Tally I helped across the Rainbow Bridge about 3 weeks ago, and Lacy 5 years ago. I'ts going to take a couple months on the Memorial and I'll explain why in future updates as its way to stressful to talk about at the moment. I sure miss my little shadow.

The yard help abounds.

It's truly amazing all the help some critters will give you some days in the yard. Funny but tends to slow a person down when you have to referee and remove kittys from holes that are meant for Azlaeas and Blueberrys, whilst the poor Mila Monster sat on her side of the electric fence wanting in on the action. IT turned off a bit cool 3/6/2011 but the yard work is calling my name along with the "yard help".

Living Together

Its taken 4/5 years for Bogy to finally start trusting the MilaMonster enough to roll around on the grass this close,, NOTE , MilaMonster is still on leash though!! Bogy knows this!!

IF BOgy had his choice Banita would not live at our house, he mostly ignores her but seems to be adjusting finally after about 4 months.

OK, so the MilaMOnster is still on the leash when Banita walks with us outdoors, but really they ARE tolerating each other better, even indoors they will come nose to nose, JUST DO NOT RUN Banita,,, the Ridgback in the MilaMonster comes out to play when you run!

Whose the BOSS?

well????????? Banita of course! she's outgrown the neighbors little dog. AND ran her away that day. the little dog wants to be mine, for such a tiny thing, they have thrown her outdoors this winter. it took her months to make it down to my house and was she ever so sweet, well once I put Banita indoors so i could visit with the critter I call Bitsy, Banita is twice her size. THE little dog acted like she was starved for food and attention. that was a month or so ago, and low and behold she appears to have disappeared one stormy night. People do not deserve a tiny sweet dog such as this. AND she is small enough for a Hawk or Owl to attack. THESE are the neighbors that have trashed the place next door. Their garbage blows everywhere. I did try and talk to the acutal owner, to no avail apparently. I'm thinking the little dog went to a much better home. AND probably with out a cat that SEEMS TO HAVE TAKEN over the place!

Just a bit of an update, the Bitsy puppa no longer lives next door. I do believe she found a new and better home.

a different kind of critter

Ok, its not a 4 legged , nor two legged critter, more like a round no leg critter, but its been a bit hilarious watching it move about the neighborhood to the pond and washed up below my pond, I saved it, yet it ended back in the pond and out again, EVEN the MILAMONSTER thought it was something to bark at late one evening, it was dark when i took this picture. I could not let January go by with out adding something now could I? THE first sighting , it had spooked me, i was leaving for office before daylight and the headlights on my truck, showed LARGE LARGE eyes staring back at me. I couldn't for the life of me decide what it could be till I got very close.
